Founded in 1950, the School of Business, Renmin University of China is the key base for industry and business management education in China. It was evolved from Departments of Industrial Economics, Trade Economics，and Accounting. It is one of the first business schools that ran MBA program in China. RBS offers programs covering the whole industry and business management field, including all programs in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees.
RBS is the first-tier national base for industry and business management with corporate management, industrial economics and accounting as the key national academic subjects. It offers eight doctoral degrees in industrial economics, enterprise management, accounting, technological economics, financial management, marketing, tourism management, and logistics economics; thirteen graduate degrees in corporate management, tourism management, management science, accounting, technological economics and management, international trade, industrial economics, logistics economics, marketing management, financial management, MBA, EMBA and MPAcc; and six undergraduate degrees in industry and business management, marketing, engineering management, accounting, financial management, and trade economics.
RBS consists of the following seven Departments: Corporate Management, Organization and Human Resources, Management Science and Engineering, Trade and Economics, Marketing, Accounting, and Finance; It also has the Institute of Industrial Economy and Management Science, RUC Research Center for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, RUC Institute of Market Research, China Market Research Center, RUC Research Center for Financial Theory, and RUC Research Center for Accounting and Financial Management.
As of December 2005, RBS faculty consist of 46 professors and 47 associate professors. It has 3,701 full-time students (1,731 undergraduates, 452 master candidates with supervisors, 281 Ph.D. candidates, 776 MBA candidates, 208 MPAcc candidates, 253 EMBA candidates, and over 1,500 trainees engaged in further studies. It has very strong, comprehensive, well-structured teaching and research forces.
RBS is also one of the key bases for MBA education in China. The MBA education at RBS is the embodiment of the research on management theory and corporate practice over half century. It has drawn the quintessence from contemporary European and American MBA education, which helped form a set of extractive curriculum with its own characteristics. Our MBA program is featured by “paying equal attention to both advanced topics and systematic courses, distinguished professors coupled with entrepreneurs, advanced western theory integrated with domestic experience, and simulated training with interactive case discussion�
RBS has established a close and long-term exchange visits and academic exchange relationship with famous universities in U.S.A., Canada, UK, France, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand, etc.
The cooperative programs in MBA, MPA and doctoral degrees with McGill University in Canada started from 1984. It initiated EMBA program with New York State University at SUNNY Buffalo in 1998. This program has been ranked first in the National Evaluation of cooperated education programs. Currently it is running the doctoral degree in management and master degree in MPAcc with Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Meanwhile, it has the student exchange visit programs with California State University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Lingnan University of Hong Kong.
RBS enjoys a high academic status in the economic management field in China. Academic research is an important portion in the development and construction of this school. We have provided powerful theoretical and practical support for the development of many enterprises in China through integrating theoretical research and management practice, and integrating academic research with the reform, opening up, and development of China. RBS has a strong scientific research faculty. By 2005, RBS faculty have published over 1,300 academic research papers, 600 of which have been published in core journals of China; we have also published over 500 academic monographs and textbooks; have been granted 50 research projects from departments of ministries; and obtained RMB¥5.8407 million of scientific research fund. During the “Tenth Five-year Plan�period, RBS faculty have won five national teaching achievement prizes, four provincial or ministerial teaching achievement prizes, four national prizes of excellent courses, three provincial or ministerial excellent course prizes, four national excellent textbook prizes, and eight provincial or ministerial prizes of excellent textbooks.
In December 2005, the Mingde Building Complex was put into use. It has advanced teaching and office facilities, multimedia classrooms, and a computer and lab center.
With the profound accumulated academic legacy, RBS has set up its strategy to develop itself into the influential and prestigious education base for fostering personnel in management science research both nationally and internationally. It is poised to become the top business school in China in the early 21st century.
