Research Interests
Marketing Management, International Marketing, History of Marketing Thought, Nonprofit Organization Marketing, and Hi-tech Firms Management.
Biography
After he graduated and got the Degree of Master in Economics from Renmin University of China, Professor Guo taught for 20 years in the fields of marketing. He assumed visiting positions in universities in Hong Kong, Canada, U.S. and U.K.. In June 1995, he was appointed the Chair Professor in Marketing in Renmin University. As a national committee member of CPCC, he has been playing an active role in lobbying Chinese government to develop marketing education for nearly ten years. His proposition for strengthening national marketing education has been written in the China's Government Report 1996. In 1998, he got his Ph D degree from Renmin University of China. In 2004,he got the excellent award and supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, Ministry of Education, PRC.
Research Activities
His main research areas include history of marketing thought (the evolution of major schools of thought, the ancient marketing thoughts in traditional Chinese culture, and the modern marketing thought in Chinese business management), marketing in Chinese economies (marketing and development, market orientations, and marketing strategies), marketing strategy in China's Hi-tech firms, and NPO marketing. He published more than 50 top journal papers, book chapters, and conference papers on these subjects. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Asian Marketing, Journal of Marketing Science, Journal of Contemporary Economic Management, and Journal of Management World.
Honors
Professor Guo has got many awards such as the Distinguished Supervisor Award of RUC (1994) , Distinguished Professor Award of Fok Yeung Tung Education Foundation (1996), and Excellence Award for the Paper presented at the 99' China Youth SciTech Forum (1999).    Prof. Guo is very active in international academic circle. He was invited as guest professor by Faculty of Management, McGill University from1993-1994. In 1995, he acted as the Secretary-General of the Fifth International Conference on Marketing and Development jointly held by RUC, McGill University and Concordia University in Beijing. He was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for Marketing and Development (ISMD) in the same year. In 2000, he worked as a visiting professor in Templeton College, University of Oxford, sponsored by the EU-China Higher Education Cooperation Programme. As the youngest leader of the Chinese Association of Marketing Educators, He has made great contributions to the dissemination, application and development of modern marketing principles in China.
Consultancy and Executive Programs
Prof. Guo has consulted with the organizations in service, consumer products, as well as retailing industries. His clients include the Military Supplies Unit of the General Rear-Service Department of the People's Liberation Army, the Beijing Railway Bureau. He offers Marketing seminars regularly in the Central University of Chinese Communist Party, the Ministry of Information Industry of P R China, and the State Administration University. He serves as the key professor in the training workshops for the marketing teachers from universities or colleges throughout the country .
He conducts executive programs for national and international companies such as Ericsson, Motorola, Skyworth, Legend Group, Sany Group, the Entrepreneur Survey System of China, Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Construction Bank of China, LongRunGroup, Winnerway Group, and a few government departments.
